Happy World Oceans Day!

Sea Spider recovered by Museums Victoria on RV Investigator - Robert Zugaro

Today is World Oceans Day and to mark the occasion, Museums Victoria will stage a live event on board CSIRO's ship RV Investigator. The ship is currently operating just off Australia's East coast, from where school children around the nation will get the opportunity to take a fascinating peak into the world of marine biology.

Via a live video feed from the ship, children will be able to see specimens such as the popular faceless fish and the alien-like sea spider, recovered from the deep abyss up to 4km below the surface. On hand to answer questions will be voyage leader and museum curator Dr Tim O’Hara and his team of scientists.

Acutec will provide a dedicated 6 Mbps satellite link via the ships C-band VSAT communications system for the event. Among the young, excited audience, packed with budding marine biologists today, we hope that there will be one or two future maritime communications engineers - also a fascinating career!
